Full-Day Workshops
Mindfulness in CBT -This workshop teaches clinicians strategies for incorporating mindfulness-based interventions in CBT, with special attention given to Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.
Skills Training in DBT - Skills Training is a key
component of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). This workshop provides
clinicians with an overview of the skills taught in DBT skills groups and
strategies for effectively teaching them to adults and adolescents. Skills to be discussed include
mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal
effectiveness, and walking the middle path (specifically for adolescents).
Dealing with Therapy-Interfering Behaviour: Strategies from DBT - This workshop provides clinicians with well-established practices for addressing therapy interfering behaviours often encountered in work with multi-problem clients, such as failure to complete homework, anger outbursts, withdrawal, lack of commitment, and other behaviours that can make treatment progress challenging.
Strategies in Working with Suicidal Clients - Suicide is the 8th leading cause of death across all ages and the 2nd leading cause of death for those 15-24 years of age. This workshop provides clinicians with methods for effectively assessing and treating suicidality. Special attention is devoted to strategies including performing a chain analysis, generating solutions, and using diary cards to track thoughts, urges and action related to self harm and suicidal ideation.
Self-Care for the Clinician - This workshop explores the role of self-care in the life of the practitioner. Being in a helping role, one is continously exposed to the suffering of others. In addition, many practitioners are expected to adapt to increased work demands and decreased resources, furthering the potential stress factors. With honest self examination and learning how to quiet the mind, practitioners with learning how to recognize when one is "off track" and simple strategies of how to improve one's self care and restore energy and balance.
Half-Day Workshops
Assessment of Suicide Risk - This workshop is designed to provide mental health clinicians with evidence-based methods for effectively assessing a client's risk of suicide. We provide step-by-step procedures you can use to determine your client's level of risk and respond effectively.
Assessing and Treating Self-Injury - This workshop provides clinicians with specific methods for evaluating and treating self-injury. Topics to be covered include: the etiology of self-injury, assessing severity and risk, and strategies for clients to reduce their self harm behaviours.
